Riyad Joucka is an architect and researcher based in Dubai. In 2016 he founded MEAN* (Middle East Architecture Network), a practice that uses computation and digital fabrication to design for the climate and culture of each place it builds in.
At MEAN* his work ranges from 3D printed furniture and pavilions to interiors, with proposals for houses and public buildings. Built projects include Repeat Wellness Club in Barcelona, the Send Location flagship and the Le Monde d’Hermès kiosk in Dubai, and The Migrant Kitchen in New York. MEAN* was named in ArchDaily’s Best New Practices in 2024, and AD Middle East included him in AD100 2026: The Debuts.
At Zayed University in Dubai he teaches in the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises and holds a research fellowship in practice at the Zayed Institute for Architecture, Heritage and Arts. His research, The Adaptive Majlis, traces how the majlis, a room for gathering and hospitality, has changed over time, and tests how modular design and material research can extend it. With Prof. Adina Hempel he hosts Additive Dialogues, an interview series in which practices from WASP in Italy to Serendix in Japan discuss 3D printing and modular design.
He holds a Bachelor of Architecture with distinction from Carleton University in Ottawa and a Master of Architecture with distinction in Emergent Technologies and Design from the Architectural Association in London. From 2012 to 2017 he worked in Hong Kong and New York, with SHoP Architects, Woods Bagot, FR-EE and Front, and managed the Fab Lab at the University of Hong Kong. From 2014 to 2018 he directed the AA Visiting School in Dubai.
At TED in Dubai in 2025 he argued that a home should be designed around the people who live in it rather than the market, drawing on 3D printing and on lessons from traditional building. His curatorial proposal Assembled Identities, for the National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, 2027, asks how domestic identity forms within standardized housing systems.
رياض جُقّة معماري وباحث مقيم في دبي. أسّس مين* (شبكة الشرق الأوسط للعمارة) عام ٢٠١٦، وهي ممارسة معمارية توظّف الحوسبة والتصنيع الرقمي في التصميم لمناخ كل مكان تبني فيه ولثقافته.
تمتد أعماله في مين* من الأثاث والأجنحة المصنوعة بالطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد إلى التصاميم الداخلية، إلى جانب مقترحات لبيوت ومبانٍ عامة. ومن مشاريعها المنفّذة نادي Repeat Wellness Club في برشلونة، ومتجر Send Location الرئيسي وكشك Le Monde d’Hermès في دبي، ومشروع The Migrant Kitchen في نيويورك. واختيرت مين* ضمن قائمة ArchDaily لأفضل المكاتب المعمارية الجديدة لعام ٢٠٢٤، وأدرجته مجلة AD Middle East في قائمة AD100 2026: The Debuts.
وفي جامعة زايد بدبي، يدرّس في كلية الفنون والصناعات الإبداعية، ويشغل زمالة بحثية للممارسين في معهد زايد للعمارة والتراث والفنون. يتتبّع بحثه «المجلس المتكيّف» تحوّلات المجلس، فضاء الاجتماع والضيافة، عبر الزمن، ويختبر كيف يمكن للتصميم القائم على الوحدات والبحث في المواد أن يوسّعاه. ومع البروفيسورة أدينا هيمبل يقدّم سلسلة المقابلات Additive Dialogues، التي تحاور مكاتب وشركات من WASP في إيطاليا إلى Serendix في اليابان عن الطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد والتصميم القائم على الوحدات.
يحمل بكالوريوس العمارة بدرجة امتياز من جامعة كارلتون في أوتاوا، وماجستير العمارة بدرجة امتياز في التقنيات الناشئة والتصميم من الجمعية المعمارية (AA) في لندن. وبين عامَي ٢٠١٢ و٢٠١٧ عمل في هونغ كونغ ونيويورك مع SHoP Architects وWoods Bagot وFR-EE وFront، وأدار مختبر التصنيع الرقمي في جامعة هونغ كونغ. ومن ٢٠١٤ إلى ٢٠١٨ أدار المدرسة الزائرة للجمعية المعمارية في دبي.
وفي محاضرته على منصة TED في دبي عام ٢٠٢٥، دعا إلى أن يُصمَّم البيت حول من يسكنه لا حول السوق، مستنداً إلى الطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد وإلى دروس البناء التقليدي. ويطرح مقترحه القيّمي «هويات مركّبة»، المقدَّم للجناح الوطني لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في المعرض الدولي العشرين للعمارة في بينالي البندقية ٢٠٢٧، سؤالاً عن كيفية تشكّل الهوية المنزلية داخل أنظمة الإسكان الموحّدة.
